Alvina Ferrier, 98


Alvina Ferrier died on June 5 at her home at the Cambridge Health Care Center. She was 98 years old.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 9, at Braham Evangelical Lutheran Church in Braham, Minn., with Rev. Richard Chronis officiating. Burial followed at Rice Lake Cemetery in Braham.

Alvina Irene Ferrier was born on Dec. 20, 1903, in Maine Prairie to Frank and Edith Longwell. She attended high school in Kimball. She married Martin Ferrier on July 7, 1922; he preceded her in death. Together they lived in Ft. Thompson, S.D., and in St. Cloud and Princeton; since 1950 they lived in Braham.

Alvina was preceded in death by her parents; husband Martin; sons Wayne and Martin Jr.; grandson Steven Anderson; brothers LaVerne and Merton Longwell, and sister Lois Rinkel.

She is survived by her children: Carol of Clear Lake, Donald of Braham, Gerald of Princeton, Larry of Lindstrom, David (and Donna) of Fridley; daughter-in-law Gloria Ferrier of Oacoma, S.D.; sister Opal Hedlund of South Haven; 16 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Alvina’s grandsons Michael Ferrier, Richard Anderson, Christopher Anderson, Lawrence Ferrier, Aaron Ferrier and Gregory Cox, and great-grandsons Nicholas Anderson and Robert Savard. Honorary pallbearer was her great-grandson Drew Perry, who was born on Alvina’s birthday.
