Marlene Peterson, 63


Marlene Peterson of Kingston died on Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, at her home in Kingston Township. Funeral services were held on Thursday, Jan. 2, at the Apostolic Lutheran Church in Kingston with Pastor Orvil Wirkkala officiating and music by Barbara Root. Burial followed in the church cemetery.   Marlene was born on Nov. 23, 1939, to Walfred and Viola (Isaacson) Stein in Kingston. She was baptized and later confirmed at the Apostolic Lutheran Church of Kingston. On Sept. 15, 1973 she was united in marriage to Charles “Pete” Peterson in Fair Haven. They lived in Fair Haven and later in Kingston. Marlene enjoyed gardening, doing crossword puzzles and having family, relatives or friends over for a game of scrabble. She worked for many years as a cook in Mom’s Cafe of South Haven. Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, husband Pete in 1996, sisters Betty Emerson and Joyce Pick, and brother Melvin Stein. She is survived by her children Vicki Hokkala of South Haven, Bob (and Angela) Hille of Zimmerman and Scott (and Mary) of Sauk Rapids; her six grandchildren; sisters Mavis (and Jim) Hillyard of Burnsville and Thelma McKenzie of Hermosa, S.D.
