Kimball girls?Äô basketball closes regular season


The KAHS girls won at Ogilvie, 72-40 Tuesday, Feb. 25; they lost at Rockford, 67-50 Thursday; and they lost at home Friday, Feb. 28, to Pierz, 56-45. At Ogilvie, 
Kimball jumped out to an 11-0 lead and never trailed. The Cubs took advantage of 19 steals and forced 19 turnovers to create more offensive opportunities. Kimball out-rebounded the Lions, 45-28, to control the boards. Kimball leaders were: Taylor Schreiner 15 points, Madelyn O?ÄôBrien 12 rebounds and 3 blocks, Caitlyn O?ÄôBrien also had 3 blocks. Taylor Schreiner had 5 steals, Madison Libbesmeier and Hannah Serbus each had 5 assists. Scoring: Madison Libbesmeier, 6; Taylor Schreiner, 15; Hannah Serbus, 8; Kristina Kastanek, 8; Victoria Denn, 2; Madison Hurrle, 1; Abbey Straley, 2; Madelyn O?ÄôBrien, 11; Nicole Vossen, 6; Caitlyn O?ÄôBrien, 3; Becky Holtz, 10.

Thursday, Kimball held the lead early on until Rockford gained its first advantage at 21-20, with just under seven minutes to play. By halftime, Rockford held a 35-29 lead. In the second half, the Rockets forced the Cubs to turn over the ball, building their lead to 48-31 with four minutes into the second half. Kimball struggled to
make its own run in the second half as Rockford finished with a 67-50 win. Kimball played very well at times but had a few stretches where they didn?Äôt take care of the basketball, which allowed Rockford to make its scoring runs, ultimately making the difference in the contest. Kimball leaders: Madelyn O?ÄôBrien led all scorers with 13 points, Madison Libbesmeier and Taylor Schreiner each had 3 assists. Becky Holtz and Madelyn O?ÄôBrien each had 11 rebounds. Hannah Serbus led in steals with 3. Madelyn O?ÄôBrien blocked 3 shots to lead in that category. The Cubs fell to Pierz at home Friday, 56-45. After the game was tied at 6-6, Pierz held a 28-21 halftime advantage. The Cubs cut the lead to 4 points early in the second half, but Pierz again made another run to take a commanding 47-32 lead with just under 10 minutes to play. That would be enough.
