EV-W softball team wins season opener at Upsala

The weather woes were well worth the wait for the lady Eagles, as they hammered out 13 hits en route to a 16-10 victory in Upsala Thursday, April 10. EV-W had the bats working overtime, scoring runs in six of the seven innings. Coach Dave Dziengel was pleased to get back at it. ?ÄúIt was nice to finally get a game in, and we are actually playing 19 days earlier than last season.?Äù Senior Jamie Scherer was credited with the win. ?ÄúJamie did an OK job pitching. She got a little tired in the sixth and the Cardinals did a nice job rallying, to make the score 14-10. We added two runs in the seventh and held on for our first win of the season,?Äù Dziengel said. The Eagles are a talented, enthusiastic bunch with plenty of new faces. ?ÄúWith five new starters, I was happy how we swung the bats and how well we did running the bases. We will need to continue to improve with games next week against a good Browerville team and our first game against a very athletic Pierz team,?Äù added coach Dziengel.
