Kimball fast-pitch off to fast start with win over ACGC


Senior Alexis Rose popped two homeruns as the Kimball Cubs fast pitch team opened their season with a home game victory, 11-2, over Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City last Thursday. Wasting no time, the Cubs scored two runs in the first inning, on RBI singles from Shay Krippner and Emily Utecht. The Cubs added to their lead in the second inning when Madison Libbesmeier?Äôs base knock scored Maddy Schreifels. In the top of the fourth, ACGC got a two-run home run from Katie Moore. But Alexis Rose trumped that shot with a two-run blast of her own in the Cubs?Äô fourth. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Stacy Hurrle?Äôs RBI single scored Maddy Schreifels, and Alexis Rose belted a three-run homerun to make the score 9-2.  Kimball would score two more runs in the game, making the final 11-2. Pitching for the Cubs were Emily Utecht and Madison Libbesmeier. Utecht started and went four innings. She struck out 3, walked none, allowed 2 runs off of 7 hits and gave up 1 home run. Libbesmeier struck out 4 in three innings, issued no walks, and allowed no runs. Utecht came away with the win. The Cubs had 16 hits on the day, including three extra-base hits; a double by Lauren Libbesmeier, and two home runs by Alexis Rose.

Highlights for the Cubs: Lauren Libbesmeier was 3 for 4 with 1 RBI, and 1 walk; Madison Libbesmeier was 3 for 5 with 2 RBI and 3 stolen bases; Madison Schreifels was 2 for 3 with 1 RBI, 1 walk, and
6 stolen bases; Shelby Schiefelbein was 2 for 4; Alexis Rose was 2 for 2 with a 2-run home run and a 3-run home run, 1 stolen base, and 3 walks; Stacy Hurrle, Shay Krippner, Krista Anderson, Emily Utecht, and Brittany Wittrock each had 1 hit in the game.

Winning pitcher was Emily Utecht, 4 innings pitched, 3 strike outs, 0 walks, 2 runs allowed.

Madison Libbesmeier recorded 3 innings pitched, 4 strike outs, no runs allowed. The Cubs next game is a home game Monday, April 14, against Maple Lake, at 4:30 p.m. in Kimball.
