Weather: Scattered showers and thunderstorms moved across parts of Minnesota Monday,
Aug. 4, as a weak cold-front pushed across the Upper Midwest. The majority of the activity was confined to Southern and Western Minnesota Monday and Tuesday.
Plenty of sunshine was found Monday across Northern and Central Minnesota with highs generally in the mid to upper 70s.
Warmer air was found across the rest of the state with the warmest air found across Southern Minnesota. Highs in that part of the state hit the low- to mid-80s Monday.
Another round of showers and thunderstorms are possible that will develop over the Pacific Northwest and move east into the Upper Midwest Tuesday night into Wednesday.
Right now it looks like the track of this system will impact mainly Southwest Minnesota into Northern Iowa, but the rest of the area could see some isolated or scattered showers and thunderstorms as well.
Looking ahead towards the weekend, a stronger short-wave will move across the Northern Plains Thursday into Friday. This could bring some scattered showers and thunderstorms once again across Minnesota.
Our fairly active weather pattern will continue for the weekend with a frontal boundary system arriving for Saturday, that could bring showers and thunderstorms along with muggy conditions. Dew points are projected to be in the low- to mid-60s over the weekend.
By the way, if you love the annual Perseid meteor shower, it is under way and will peak Aug. 11-13.
Unfortunately, there will be another ?Äúsuper?Äù full moon during that period that will likely wash out most of the best viewing. However, you still should be able to see some of the show before and after the full moon washes things out.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Weather history: This date in 1969 had ?Äútornadoes sweep across northern Minnesota, hitting Ely, Backus, Outing and Dark Lake.?Äù Damage could still be ?Äúseen 20 years later in the BWCA.?Äù
Weather fact: A tornado may appear nearly transparent until dust and debris are picked up or a cloud forms within the funnel.
