Tornadoes did some damage

Weather: The clean-up continues after tornadoes hit Minnesota on Saturday causing some moderate damage. This was all part of an outbreak that stretched from Texas and Oklahoma all the way up to Minnesota.

Locally, law enforcement officials reported that part of a roof blew off a building at a farmstead north of Montevideo.

In Meeker County, Saturday?Äôs storm destroyed outbuildings of one residence and left the house with roof, window and water damage. The damage was estimated at $80,000.

In addition, Meeker County officials said there were also reports in the county of other roofs damaged, trees and power lines down and flooded streets.

Funnel clouds or brief tornado touchdowns were also reported near Brooten, Sunburg, Murdock, and De Graff on Saturday across central and west-central Minnesota.

In addition, record rainfall fell at St. Cloud with 1.41 inches of rain falling on Sunday alone. This beat the old record of 1.12 of rainfall set back in 1910 for that day.

In the wake of that storm system, much colder weather arrived on the backside of the cold-front. Freeze warnings had to be posted for parts of Minnesota because of the unseasonably cold air.

There is good news as warmer weather will finally arrive for the midweek into the weekend. We could see some low to mid 70s returning by Thursday and Friday.

Enjoy the warm-up.

Weather history: On this date in 1892: Very late season snowfall over central Minnesota. Maple Plain received 4 inches of snow, with 3 inches falling in Minneapolis. This is the latest significant snow on record for the Twin Cities, and one of the latest widespread snowfalls in Minnesota.

Weather fact: Each year, about a thousand tornadoes touch down in the United States, far more than any other country.
