The graduating class of 2018 from Eden Valley-Watkins High School had 74 individuals crossing the stage and receiving their diplomas. There was one noticeably absent from that group; he would have been number 75. That’s Jake Foehrenbacher. Gone, but certainly not forgotten.
This year’s graduation ceremonies were held in the Johnson-Peterson Gym at the high school, with plenty of chairs set up on the floor in addition to the bleachers. One of those chairs, front and center in the section for the graduates, had a blue gown draped over it. That was Jake’s chair. Sam Fink carried what would have been Jake’s mortarboard along with his own diploma. And classmates Grant Kahlstorf and George Lemke played one of Jake’s favorite songs, indeed the class song, John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads” in Jake’s honor.
Lisa Holdvogt welcomed the class, Emma Roy sang “Never Enough” from The Greatest Showman, 2018 Valedictorian Maggie Schmaltz gave the commencement address, Hannah Holmberg and Morgan Steffens sang “Humble & Kind,” the band played “The Lion King,” everyone viewed the class slideshow, and Class of 2018 president JaDyn Nohner gave the farewell after diplomas were presented.
Congratulations to the EV-W Class of 2018!
