Comfortable temperatures

Mark Anthony Meteorologist

Weather column: We have lucked out the last two weekends as we have experienced two fantastic weekends back-to back across Minnesota.

Temperatures were in the upper 70s to lower 80s once again with lots of sunshine and light winds. Dew points over the weekend were generally in the lower 60s making for a comfortable time to be outdoors.

Rain chances held off until late Sunday night into Monday as a weak cold front arrived once again. Some scattered showers and thunderstorms moved across the state early this week.

Another cold front, this one stronger, is expected to arrive Wednesday into Thursday. We could see more widespread rain with this secondary cold front. Rainfall amounts of a quarter- to a half-inch are possible with this secondary system.

By early next week, we could see some chilly air in place. Dew points are expected to fall into the 30s and lower 40s across most of northern Minnesota and into the 40s and lower 50s across southern Minnesota. It doesn’t look like record cold will be with us, but we could feel a bit like fall as we head toward the first of August!

Have a wonderful midweek and take advantage of the great days while they are here.

Weather history: On this day in 2000 an F4 tornado hit the city of Granite Falls. One person was killed in that tornado with over “20 million dollars in damage.”

Weather fact: Did you know that most tornadoes have a “forward speed that is less than 35 miles per hour?”
