Spilled Grain Brewhouse awarded silver medal at the Great American Beer Festival®

False Hope Wheatwine honored for brewing excellence in Other Strong Beer Category

Spilled Grain Brewhouse received a silver medal at the 2018 Great American Beer Festival (GABF) competition. Presented by the Brewers Association, GABF is the largest commercial beer competition in the world and recognizes the most outstanding beers produced in the United States. The top three winners in the competition’s 102 beer-style categories were announced
Sept. 22, at the Great American Beer Festival awards ceremony held at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, Colo.

Spilled Grain Brewhouse was recognized in the Other Strong Beer beer-style category for its False Hope, a Wheatwine. A Wheatwine is not derived from grapes as its name might suggest, however. Made with at least
50 percent wheat malt, this beer features bready and candy flavors, and finishes with a great deal of malty sweetness. Some moderate fruitiness from the yeast, hops, and aging (contributes vinous qualities) will be present along with low carbonation and a medium to full body. The high alcohol will be smooth and will provide a gentle warming sensation. Spilled Grain Brewhouse is a 3.5-barrel microbrewery located in Annandale, that specializes in true-to-style craft beers and a unique taproom experience.
