Saturday, Feb. 2, at about 4:10 a.m., the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a call from a railroad company about a building fire in Eden Lake Township. A train was passing through and noticed a building was on fire near Eden Valley.
First responders were dispatched to 14512 Lakewood Road in Eden Lake Township and found a 65 x 313-foot
turkey barn fully engulfed.
According to the owners of the barn, Steven David Ries, 59, and Jamie Lynn Ries, 40, both of Eden Valley, the barn was vacant. They were expecting a delivery of new turkeys at 8 a.m. that morning. The barn is considered a complete loss.
Eden Valley Fire Department, Watkins Fire Department, Paynesville Ambulance, and the Paynesville Police Department assisted.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
