For those of you sick of winter and hoping for an early spring, you may be in luck according to one prognosticator.
On Ground Hog Day, Puxatawny Phil didn’t see his shadow so that means, according to legend, that spring is just around the corner. That all sounds good, but how reliable is Puxatawny Phil? He is correct with his prediction only about 40 percent of the time. You would have a better chance by just flipping a coin where your odds are 50-50 to come up with the correct answer.
Parts of Minnesota saw wintry weather once again Sunday night into Monday. A winter weather advisory was posted for much of the area for freezing rain and snow.
Another system is expected to arrive Tuesday night into Wednesday. Some freezing drizzle will also be possible with this system along with some measurable snow. At this stage, parts of Minnesota could see
1 to 3 inches of snow.
Are we done with the snow for awhile? Actually, no we are not. We do have another system expected to quickly move out of the Rockies and into the Central Plains and the Upper Midwest for Thursday. Some accumulation again will be possible with this disturbance. The track of this system is still not exactly known.
Cold weather will return by Friday, but thankfully, it doesn’t look to be as big of a deep freeze as last go around.
Keep thinking warm thoughts and spring really is only six weeks away one way or another on March 20.
Weather fact: Do you know why we shiver when we are cold? Shivering tightens the skin and “shakes the muscles, a process that conserves and generates heat.”
