Last Tuesday, Jan. 29, in the midst of plummeting sub-zero temperatures and blowing winds, a resident at Sunrise Drive in Kimball was blown over while fetching her garbage cans. She couldn’t get up in the wind. Her cries for help went unheard. She lay on the ice for 30 minutes before a passerby on the highway spotted her. Stephanie (sorry we don’t know her last name) and her teenaged daughter pulled up in the driveway, helped her into her home, and helped her call her family.
“Thank you” is simply not enough, Stephanie, whoever you are. Your kind deed rescued an elderly woman who likely could have perished without your help.
(Thanks, too, to Zach – you know who you are – who pulled this editor out of a snowbank left by plows across 135th Street Tuesday night while escaping toward home to finish last week’s paper.)
Thank you to everyone who worked through the Polar Vortex, and to those who weren’t working but still were out helping.
