On Saturday, Feb. 9, the Sixth District American Legion Auxiliary held their mid-winter conference at the Moose Lodge and the American Legion Post 428 in Waite Park.
Presiding over the conference was Sharon Thiemecke of Bemidji. Welcomes were given by President of the Silver Star Unit 428 in Waite Park Jan Curtis, Commander of the Silver Star Post 428 in Waite Park William Jones, and Mayor of Waite Park Rick Miller.
Those attending the conference from the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 261 of Kimball were Sixth District American Legion Auxiliary Honorary Junior President Elizabeth Spoden, Shelly Spoden, Abby Zenzen, LuAnn Marschel, Jeanne Schmidt, Colette VanVleet, Barb Hopewell, Dori Hamilton, Carol Santone Royal, and Renee Berscheid.
Reports were given by chairmen on their programs of the American Legion Auxiliary, letting members know what they should be doing to carry out these programs in their own units. Question-and-answer time was allowed for each program. Those members who report from Unit 261 Kimball were Dori Hamilton on National Security, Carol Santone Royal on Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation, LuAnn Marschel on Service to Veterans, and Abby Zenzen on Junior Activities. Elizabeth Spoden gave a welcome from the Junior members of the Sixth District American Legion Auxiliary. Elizabeth told everyone about her project which is accepting donations for the veterans at the St. Cloud V.A. of loose-leaf paper, envelopes, stamps, and calling cards so those veterans staying at the V.A. can stay in contact with family and friends.
After the morning session, lunch was served at the Waite Park Legion, then a joint session reconvened. Greetings came from the Sixth District American Legion Auxiliary President
Sharon Thiemecke, Sixth District Commander Rick Cross, Sons of the American Legion Commander Steve Dircks, and Sixth District American Legion Auxiliary Honorary Junior President Elizabeth Spoden. Guest speaker was Marland Ronning.
Serving as Color Bearers at the morning conference were: Carol Santone Royal and Jeanne Schmidt. Serving as the Sixth District American Legion Auxiliary Sergeant-At-Arms was Renee Berscheid.
