Roland Harold Isaacson was born Nov. 3, 1935, at home in rural Kingston to Harold Albin and Helmi Estella (Sako) Isaacson. He was raised on a dairy farm near Kingston and attended a country school for eight years; he graduated from Kimball High School. After farming with his father, his ag teacher was sent by the school to their farm to encourage Roland to attend the University of Minnesota where he graduated with an agriculture and mechanical engineering degree. After working at Honeywell for eight years, and meeting and marrying his wife Mary, he decided to become self-employed. He loved adventure, including the adventure of investing in business.
Roland enjoyed many activities: golf, skiing, hiking, volleyball, coaching, and playing family games. After raising their children, Roland and Mary spent 17 winters in Florida where they met many new friends. When Roland was diagnosed with Alzheimers, he decided that he wanted to live in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Roland attended and was active at Plymouth Lutheran Church in Minnesota, and then Cedar Valley Church in Cedar Rapids.
Roland was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife Mary Isaacson of Cedar Rapids; his children Janelle (and Jeff) Everly, Gregory (and Emily) Isaacson, and Lisa (and Cody) McIntyre; eight grandchildren: Joshua and Ryan Everly, Hannah, Ellie, Zachary and Drew Isaacson, and Alex and Andria McIntyre; sisters Karen (and Jon) Lundby, and Kathleen (and Wayne) Rapley; and many nieces and nephews.
