University of Minnesota Extension and the Minnesota Dairy Initiative – SouthCentral Region will be hosting an informational workshop comparing the Dairy Revenue Protection program and the new Farm Bill – Dairy Margin Coverage program Tuesday, April 9 in Hutchinson.
This two-hour workshop will use spreadsheets and other tools to analyze how the new Dairy Margin Coverage compares with the old Margin Protection Program. Prices for the different coverage levels and the pounds of coverage will be examined. In addition, information on the Farm Bureau’s new Dairy Revenue Protection program will be presented, which works similar to a crop insurance product that provided quarterly coverage. We will help determine which dairy programs are best for your dairy.
Pros and cons of each program will be highlighted. Knowing your cost of production is important; tools to help calculate your cost of production will be shown.
Nathan Hulinsky, Extension Educator explains, “With the current state of milk prices and the farm economy, maintaining profits is tricky. There are tools out there to help dairy farmers set a floor for their milk price, we want to highlight them.”
The workshop will be held Tuesday, April 9 at the McLeod County Fairgrounds – Country Diner (840 Century Ave SW, Hutchinson) from 1-3 p.m. There is no cost to attend the program. For questions, please contact Karen Johnson at (320) 484-4303 or email@example.com.
