Lady Cus win two Thursday, one Friday

The Kimball softball girls finished a successful week on the diamonds, defeating Paynesville in a Thursday double-dipper, 12-4 and 7-5. Carrying that winning momentum into Friday, the Cubs outlasted Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City, 14-1, in a six-inning affair.
Paynesville game 1, April 25
The Cubs trailed 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning, when Julia Zipoy doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs. Kimball went on to tally nine, ­bottom-of-the-fifth-inning runs and seal the victory. Ashley ­Schindele, Justice Boyer, Rachel Utecht, Dani Terwey-Lyrek, and Julia Zipoy each had RBI in the big inning. Utecht pitched the entire game for the Cubs and earned the win. She surrendered four runs on three hits over seven innings, and fanned five hitters.

Paynesville game 2
Kimball grabbed the lead late and trailed 5-4 in the top of the seventh inning when Dani ­Terwey-Lyrek tripled on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs. Julia Zipoy got the win for the Cubs, throwing seven innings, allowing five runs on nine hits and striking out six. The Cubs scattered a dozen hits in the game to claim the sweep. (Justice Boyer, Dani ­Terwey-Lyrek, and Tori Harren, each collected multiple hits).

ACGC game, April 26
Possessing that “good ole” winning moment is nice, but exploding for sixteen hits isn’t bad either; which is precisely what the Cubs did in their six-inning, 14-1 victory over ­Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City.
The Cubs got things started in the first inning when Rachel Utecht and Madaline ­Gustafson hit ­back-to-back home runs. ­Kimball continued with two more runs on three consecutive hits by Tori ­Harren, Dani ­Terway-Lyrek, and Julia Zipoy. Julia pitched six, strong innings for the complete game win. She shined for six innings, allowed four hits on just a lone run, struck-out seven, and walked none. The Cubs launched three home runs on the day. Utecht and Gustafson each went for the long ball in the first inning, and ­Bailey Joseph added a round-tripper in the fifth. Zipoy, Gustafson, ­Harren, and Joseph, all had multiple hits. Zipoy went 4-4 at the plate to lead the Cubs in hitting. ­Harren led Kimball with three stolen bases, as the team ran wild on the base paths with eight total swipes.
