Jimmy Royal of St. Cloud, formerly of Greenville, S.C., died March 8, 2019, at St. Cloud Hospital after suffering from a major stroke and other health issues. He was 69.
A celebration of life will be held at the Kimball American Legion Club in Kimball at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 1, led by Pastor Eric Marx. A light lunch will be served after the service. Jimmy Dale Royal was born in Greenville, S.C., to Dale and Mamie Royal. He was raised in a Baptist home and attended Carolina High School. He was a musician at heart and played acoustic and bass guitar throughoug his life. He loved football, baseball, and he enjoyed a round of golf with friends. He was a fun-loving person who enjoyed good conversation with many folks throughout his life. Jimmy had an undying love for his family and he missed them after moving to Minnesota. He met Carol Marschel in 1984-85 while playing bass guitar and singing with a country/rock band “Foxfire,” later known as “Southern Fire” at Fort Myers Beach, Fla. He later moved to Minnesota and married Carol Nov. 28, 2003, in Waite Park. Jimmy was a member of the Sons of the American Legion at the Kimball American Legion Post 261 and the Waite Park American Legion Post 428.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, his only sibling Sherri Lynn Layton, brother-in-law Joe Choinard, nephew Joel Berscheid, and mother-in-law Leona Marschel.
He is survived by his wife Carol Royal of St. Cloud; children Jimmy Dale, John Paul, Jessi Dawn, and Christy Alice; stepdaughter Heather Lang; granddaughters Maia and Mileah Royal, and step-granddaughter Elorra Lynn Lang; step-daughter Jeannie (Santone) (and Travis) Dean; step-grandchildren Kaitlyn Myers and Jayse Myers; brothers- and sisters-in-law Gerry (and Jeannie) Marschel of Park Rapids, Dale (and Mary) Marschel of Sartell, LuAnn Marschel (and Chuck Kruger) of Byron, Renee (and Duane) Berscheid of Kimball, Mark (and Kim) Marschel of Eden Valley, Connie Chouinard of Maplewood, Marie Marschel of St. Cloud, Dori Hamilton (and Jim Neu) of Watkins, Bob (and Sara) Marschel of Watkins, and Gene Marschel (and Aurora Lounsbury) of Watkins; as well as uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends in North and South Carolina and Florida.
