By Mark Anthony Anderson, Meteorologist
I hope you enjoyed the weekend and got out and enjoyed the weather. We did see some showers Saturday night into early Sunday, but most of the weekend was pretty pleasant.
We started off the week quiet with cool Canadian high pressure in place. This kept the region dry but also unseasonably cool for this time of the year. High temperatures on Monday were generally in the low to mid 50s.
We will continue to see unseasonably cool air in place on Wednesday and the midweek. Some rain will be possible as two waves will push across the state. One will track to the north into the Great Lakes. A secondary system will track across southern Minnesota. How much precipitation that will impact central, west central, and northern Minnesota is yet to be determined, but the clouds associated with this system will keep temperatures unseasonably cool for this time of the year.
Temperatures should moderate a bit by Friday and into the weekend. Rain chances will be possible Friday afternoon as a weak disturbance is expected to push across the state. Some spotty rain could be with us over the weekend, but this is a long ways out so things could change for the upcoming Mother’s Day weekend.
By the way, happy Mother’s Day to all of you moms, including my own mom Bonnie. Thanks for all of your love and support over the years!
Have a great weekend.
Weather history: On this date in 1925 records show that “a snow storm brought up to four inches to parts of Minnesota.” Strong winds were also found with this system.
Weather fact: Scud clouds are “low cloud fragments often seen in assocation with and behind gust fronts.” At times, these clouds can be “misinterpreted as tornadoes.”
