Lloyd Schreiner of Sauk Centre, formerly of Watkins, died Sunday, June 23, 2019, at the EssentiaHospital in Fargo, N.D. He was 81.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 28, at Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Fr. Jim Maderak officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Friday at the church. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Watkins.
Lloyd L. Schreiner was born Oct. 30, 1937, in Watkins to Leo and Mable (Lutgen) Schreiner. He grew up in Watkins and graduated in 1955 from St. Boniface High School in Cold Spring. He continued his education with two years of business college and two years at Dunwoody Institute, and he was employed as an electrical contractor for many years. He served in the United States Air Force for five years, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Lloyd was united in marriage Aug. 26, 1961, to Marilyn Hansen at Iona, Minn. They resided in Crystal for 35 years, and Cross Lake for five years prior to moving to Sauk Centre in 2003. Marilyn preceded him in death Dec. 15, 2011. Lloyd was united in marriage June 5, 2013, to Arlene (Koopmeiners) Freichels at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Sauk Centre.
Lloyd was a member of the I.B.E.W. Local 292 Union for more than 35 years. He was a member of the Crystal Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, serving as an officer for seven years, and waterball team member for 12 years. Lloyd also was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and the Catholic United Financial Association. He enjoyed car trips and traveling, especially by train. He liked to tinker and build things, and he enjoyed gardening and landscaping.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marilyn, sons Paul and John Schreiner, and stepdaughter Kathy Van Denheuvel.
He is survived by his wife Arlene Freichels; children Ann (and Bryan) Basden of Pearland, Tex., and Mark Schreiner of Cross Lake; daughters-in-law Lisa Truchinski of Champlin, and Sarah Schreiner of Plymouth; stepchildren Thomas Freichels of St. Cloud, Debbie O’Meara of Rochester, and Pam Bartos of Sauk Centre; grandchildren and step-grandchildren Leo John Schreiner, Sam Marcus Schreiner, Samuel Richard Basden, Susanna Nicole Basden, Nicholas Paul Basden, Christopher James Basden, Kristina O’Meara, Eric Stowell, Nicole Bartos, Kaitlyn O’Meara, Nathan Van Denheuvel, and Bryant Van Denheuvel; and sister Patricia Miller of Bloomington.
Because of severe allergies, the family requests no floral arrangements that include lilies, lilacs, marigolds, or daffodils. Arrangements are with the Ertl Funeral Home in Watkins.
