I hope everyone had a wonderful Independence Day celebration. The weather really was pretty decent over the extended weekend for people to get out and enjoy themselves. I know I saw a lot of red noses and cheeks from some of you who were able to spend some time outdoors having some fun.
Some scattered showers and thunderstorms moved out of North Dakota and South Dakota late Monday night into -Tuesday. This brought some scattered showers and thunderstorms to portions of the region.
We will see a big increase in the winds on Wednesday as a wave pushes across the state of Minnesota. This will result in a strong pressure gradient developing and winds gusting to 30 to 40 mph at times.
High pressure will return on Thursday. This will allow the winds to diminish and make for a pleasant day. Dew points are expected to fall into the 50s on Thursday making for a comfortable day.
A change will come our way for Friday and the weekend as a tropical airmass will settle-in through at least Sunday. Temperatures will climb into the mid- to upper-80s and possibly even some lower 90s. Dew points will also return to the mid- to upper-60s making for some uncomfortable conditions along the way.
Try to stay cool later on this week and into the weekend.
Weather history: On this date in 2002 parts of the region saw heavy rainfall. For example, there was “extensive street flooding in St. Cloud.” In fact, people “had to be rescued by the fire department” as some were stranded in their cars due to all the rain.
Weather facts: Did you know that floods are the most widespread natural disaster aside from wildfires? According to records, 90% of all Presidental natural disasters in the United States are due to flooding.
