It was a beautiful weekend across Minnesota once the rain worked its way through the area by Saturday afternoon. By late in the day, Canadian high pressure pushed into the state. This allowed for a clearing sky and low dew points and humidity for Saturday afternoon.
On Sunday, a weak shortwave, or fast-moving system, moved across the area. This allowed for a couple of spotty showers. Most of the area did remain dry on Sunday.
High temperatures on Monday were actually cooler than average for a change. Highs were generally in the mid- to upper-70s with lots of sunshine. This was in stark contrast to the upper-80s and lower-90s that we had late last week.
We did see temperatures return to more seasonal readings by Tuesday as we were influenced by a big dome of high pressure over the Central Plains. This should continue to keep our weather in check through Wednesday.
A change will take place by Thursday as an upper-level disturbance will push into the area from the Pacific Northwest. Some isolated showers and thunderstorms will be possible by Thursday night into Friday.
Weak high pressure will return just in time for the weekend. However, another system could bring some spotty showers and thunderstorms by late Saturday into Sunday across parts of the area. This is still a ways out, so things could change.
Soak up that sunshine while it is here.
Weather history: On this date in 1891, it was cold across parts of Minnesota. For example, “heavy frost hits Elkton in Mower County.” The cold snap killed “all vegetable crops” in that part of the state.
Weather fact: Did you know that a downdraft is a column of cool air that “sinks towards the ground?” It is usually “accompanied by rain.”
