A preliminary meeting was held Monday evening, July 29, in Watkins about beginning a joint Eden Valley/Watkins Community Fund. Including the presenters and media, there were 14 individuals present.
Three representatives of Central Minnesota Community Foundation, based in St. Cloud, presented information about getting started. Several representatives of Eden Valley’s C4P group also attended.
The plan is to create a joint community fund with the existing scholarship fund through the EV-W Schools being administratively a part of the bigger fund, but financially completely separate. The scholarship fund is self-sufficient, and all those funds will stay as they are.
A total of $20,000 must be raised and kept in the fund at all times. Any and all donations are welcomed.
Board members are sought from all ages and walks of life from both communities. The board would meet as needed, and would be responsible for making decisions on grant requests within the community; 11-15 board members are needed.
The next meeting of this exploratory group will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, again at the Watkins Village Hall. Anyone with any interest should plan to attend.
