After a warm weekend, storms pushed out of North Dakota and South Dakota and into parts of Minnesota late Sunday into Monday. Some of these storms were fairly strong as a cold front pushed into Minnesota.
There was enough wind shear that a few of these cells were strong across parts of central Minnesota into southern Minnesota. Temperatures did manage to finally cool off a bit once the front pushed through on Monday. Temperatures fell back into the upper 70s and lower 80s.
A secondary cold front is expected to push through the state on Wednesday. This could bring some additional showers and thunderstorms to the region.
On the backside of this system, we will see temperatures very pleasant. High temperatures are expected to hit the mid 70s on Thursday. Dew points will be comfortable in the low to mid 50s.
We could see a couple of spotty showers and thunderstorms late Friday and into the weekend. High temperatures over the weekend are expected to reach the upper 70s and lower 80s for most of the region.
By the way, the annual Perseid meteor shower will begin this week. We will have the opportunity to check out the show beginning on Friday, and it is expected to peak next Tuesday.
Have a fun rest of the week.
Weather history: On this date in 1896, it was hot all over Minnesota. For example, Le Sueur hit a high of 104 degrees F.
Weather facts: A heatwave forms when a system of “high atmospheric pressure moves into an area” for a period of time. During a heat wave, air from “upper levels of the atmosphere is pulled toward the ground, where it becomes compressed and increases in temperature.”
