Scattered showers and thunderstorms moved out of the Dakotas Sunday night into Monday. This brought with it showers and thunderstorms across much of Greater Minnesota.
Most of the severe weather threat stayed off to the west back into North Dakota and South Dakota on Monday.
This system moved out of the southwestern part of the United States and moved to the northeast into the central Plains and into the Upper Midwest. This system orginated from the recent monsoonal activity in the southwestern portion of the U.S.
On Tuesday, an upper level low moved out of the Pacific northwest and brought more scattered showers and a few isolated thunderstorms across Minnesota.
The good news is that high pressure will move in on Wednesday. A stray shower will be possible, but otherwise it should be pleasant with dew points in the low- to mid-50s expected.
Most of Thursday should be pleasant as well, but by Thursday night into Friday we could see some showers and thunderstorms returning.
Dew points will reach the low- to mid-60s over the weekend making it feel a bit sticky. Some scattered showers and thunderstorms will again be possible.
Have a great midweek and enjoy all the fun activities that are going on this week and into the weekend.
Weather history: On this date in 1978 historical records show that “The Boundary Water area was hit by a strong tornado.” According to reports, some of the “damage would be seen 10 years later!”
Weather facts: Did you know that tornadoes come from the energy released in a thunderstorm? As powerful as they are, tornadoes account for “only a tiny fraction of the energy in a thunderstorm.”
