Mark Anthony Meteorologist
Our active weather pattern has brought showers and even some thunderstorms to the state of -Minnesota off and on the past few days.
Heavy rain fell across much of the area on Monday. There were reports of 2-5 inches of rain on Monday into early Tuesday. This was on top of the rain we picked-up on Saturday into Sunday.
Some storms were found on Monday across southern -Minnesota where large hail and damaging winds were forecasted due to a system that came out of the Rockies.
We got a bit of a break on Tuesday before another system is expected to arrive -Tuesday night into Wednesday. We could see some severe weather on -Wednesday afternoon into Wednesday evening across parts of the area as a system lifts north out of Iowa.
On Thursday, a cold-front will push across the state and that could bring some additional showers and thunderstorms to the region. This system should finally exit the state by Thursday night and drier weather is expected to return by Friday and into the weekend. Warmer temps should return by the weekend as well.
Stay dry and think sunshine.
Weather history: On this date in 1900 records show that “the soggy remains of the Galveston Hurricane” brought heavy rain to parts of Minnesota. In St. Paul, for example, “6.65 inches” of rain was reported.
Weather facts: Did you know that hurricanes can pack wind speeds of over 160 mph and “unleash more than 2.4 trillion gallons of rain a day?”
