The area has been enjoying some very warm temperatures the past few days. Along with the warmer air mass, we have also been dealing with some dense fog at times. On Sunday and Monday the visibility was down to less than a quarter of a mile in parts of Greater Minnesota.
Over the weekend on Sunday afternoon, temperatures climbed into the 70s and 80s for most of the region. The warm spot was Canby where it climbed to 89 degrees F Sunday afternoon. There were a few pockets in northeastern Minnesota, however, where it was only in the 50s and 60s for high temperatures. Grand Marais reported a high of only 55 degrees F as some clouds hindered the daytime heating.
Rain chances will return by Tuesday night into Wednesday. There will be several fairly weak systems that will impact the region through Saturday. Drier and cooler weather is expected to return by Sunday and continue into early next week. High temps will generally fall back into the low to mid 60s by next Monday and Tuesday. This will be just in time for the start of fall which will arrive early Monday morning.
Enjoy the start of the fall foliage. For the latest reports on the fall colors around the state go to the DNR website at: www.dnr.state.mn.us.
Weather history: On this date in 1991 parts of northern Minnesota saw measurable snow. In Duluth, 2.5 inches of snow reportedly fell five days before the start of fall.
