Students: win cash in design competition

There are plenty of opportunities for everyone to get involved with the update to Stearns County’s Comprehensive Plan. Even teens. And it could win them cash.

We want students in grades 7-12 to design a cover for the Comprehensive Plan. The Comp Plan is used to guide the county’s growth over the next 20 years, to the year 2040. This document is used by county staff and leaders as they make future decisions regarding land use regulations and development, natural resources, parks and trails, and other community resources.

The winner and runners-up will have a chance to win $500 in prizes and special recognition by the Stearns County Board of Commissioners. The winning design will be used as the cover to the Comp Plan, and the designer will receive $300. The second runner-up will receive $150, and the third place design $50.

Cover designs can include drawings, photos, or other visual graphics. It is up to each individual and their imagination and creativity. Submissions will be judged on how well the cover captures the plan’s five pillars – agriculture, nature, connectivity, living, and business – that look toward Stearns County’s future to the year 2040.

To get more information on the Comp Plan, the contest rules and requirements, or to submit cover designs, go to shapestearns.com. Covers need to be submitted by Oct. 31, 2019.
