What’s happening at the Eden Valley Area Library?
Once again, we begin the column with gratitude. -November is National Gratitude Month. So, it is a good time to express our thanks to the community for making our library such a vibrant place. Now on to the happenings.
The EVAL Book Club meets at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, in the library. The book up for discussion is “Diary of a Young Girl: The Definitive Edition by Anne Frank” with editor, Otto M. Frank. What makes it more interesting than the originally published version? “This definitive edition contains entries about Anne’s burgeoning sexuality and confrontations with her mother that were cut from previous editions.” It is sure to be a captivating read. Check our website at http://eval22.org/doodlekit.com for a complete listing of this year’s book choices. Everyone is welcome.
The upcoming session of our toddler story time Storytime Stars is from 10-11 a.m. Friday,
Nov. 15, with great stories, music, and crafts; it is sure to be a good time. Call the library at (320) 453-4434 to reserve a spot for your little ones.
The library is proud to sponsor a visit from Sarah Kneip at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, in the Community Center. Join us to hear Sarah talk about her new book, “Secret of le Saint.” As featured in The Voice, it is described as “a historical fiction novel set in 1954 with Catholic characters.” Copies will be available for sale at the event, at Lost and Found in Eden Valley, and at www.lulu.com.
National Voter Registration Day was Monday, Sept. 23, but the campaign continues. Come into the library to register to vote either online or by USPS. Just ask a staff member for assistance. Anyone who will be 18 by Nov. 3, 2020, can register to vote. Remember: Your Vote, Your Future.
We will accept warm, thick mittens for the Eden Valley-
Watkins Elementary School starting in November and going on until the winter holiday break. So, whether you knit or just like to shop, consider donating mittens to help keep those little fingers warm. If this winter is anything like the last one, warm mittens will be needed.
Our display this month will highlight another monthly celebration: Picture Book Month. If you are not familiar with our picture book section, you are in for a treat. Check out The Story of Jumping Mouse: A Native American Legend by John Steptoe, The Three Little Pigs by David Wiesner or Locomotive by Brian Floca to name a few. You will be amazed at the talent that goes into creating these gems.
