With one conference meet remaining, the EV-W Varsity I
Knowledge Bowl Team has a stronghold on the top spot. The team’s latest win was at the Feb. 6 meet at Litchfield where they took first with 100 points.
The team of Zach Kuechle, Seth Roeser, Wyatt Schmidt, Derek Utecht, Nick Zadra, and Cory Zimmerman have a commanding 78-point lead after three conference meets. EV-W is currently in first place with 315 points. Melrose is in second place with 237 points, and Holdingford I is in third place with 223 points.
“The team has done an outstanding job in conference play,” said assistant coach Renae Ward. “They are a really fun team to watch.”
EV-W Varsity I won the first meet of the season at Kimball with 102 points. Holdingford I was second with 75 points, and Holdingford II was third with 73 points. In the second meet of the season, hosted by Mayer-Lutheran, EV-W I was first with 115 points, Melrose was second with 92 points, and Holdingford 2 was third with 73 points.
The EV-W B junior varsity team of eighth-graders Megan Blonigen and Daniel Heuring, and ninth- graders Katelyn Utecht and Alec Zadra, also brought home first- place medals at the Kimball meet.
The final conference meet is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 19,
in Holdingford. Varsity I and Varsity II teams will compete in subsections Thursday, Feb. 27, in Sartell.
