Becoming a Better Person in 2020

As we continue to reflect upon becoming a better person in 2020, I’d like to share strategy #7 from the “12 Actions You Can Take to Become a Better Person” by Deep Patel, VIP Contributor for Entrepreneur.

Have respect for others and yourself. Being respectful of others is a golden rule if we want to become better people. It goes beyond treating others with good manners and listening to them, although those are important elements of respect. Respect is also about acknowledging differences in a cordial way.

It’s important to be respectful of other people’s time, ideas, experiences, and lifestyle. By showing respect, we acknowledge others and recognize the importance of treating others with integrity. It doesn’t mean you have to flatter them or agree with their opinions. You can respectfully disagree. But if you do this while treating the other person with dignity, you set the example of how you expect to be treated in return.

Graduation rates

The Minnesota Department of Education recently released graduation rates for the class of 2019. Graduating seniors from around the state of Minnesota set a historic high rate of 83.7 percent. This is a 0.5 percent increase from 2018 and represents additional students going on to college, careers, and community success.

Locally, our 2019 graduating seniors from EV-W have a 4-year graduation rate of 95.24 percent, and a 5-year graduation rate of 97.40 percent. We’re extremely proud of our hard-working students and staff for their educational commitment and perseverance in reaching this graduation milestone.

Senior spotlight

The EV-W School District would like to recognize Wyatt Schmidt, son of Paula and Rory. In addition to his impressive academic record, Wyatt exhibits a respectful demeanor, positive work ethic, and participates in Knowledge Bowl and DECA. He recently advanced to compete at the DECA State competition held in Minneapolis. At this point, Wyatt is undecided on his plans following graduation from EV-W. Our EV-W administration, faculty and staff, are extremely proud of Wyatt for his many accomplishments. Congratulations!
