Residents who have an expired or soon-to-expire driver’s license can now make an appointment to renew their license at either of the Stearns County License Centers, downtown at 705 Courthouse Square or at the Service Center at 3301 County Road 138 in Waite Park. Appointments are for driver’s license renewals only, and citizens need to have an appointment to get into the building.
Appointments should be made online through the Stearns County website at StearnsCountyMN.gov. Before making an appointment, residents need to pre-apply online at drive.mn.gov; there is a link on the Stearns County website. A pre-application confirmation number will be required to schedule an appointment.
Be sure to bring required documents to the appointment. Per the Governor’s Order, everyone must wear a face mask into the building.
Governor Walz has extended the expiration date to Oct. 31, 2020, for driver’s licenses, ID cards, and permits that expired anytime during the peacetime order, March 13 to Sept. 30. The REAL ID deadline has been extended to Oct. 1, 2021.
