Kimball Boy Scouts update

The Kimball Boy Scout Troop have completed their third and final 10-mile hike Saturday, July 18. They were able to sneak the hike in right after a large storm passed through. They got it done just in time before temps went into the upper 90s with high humidity.

Scoutmaster Matt Serbus snapped this photo of the Kimball Scouts during their 15-mile hike Sunday, July 26. Pictured from left are Jonny Serbus, William Serbus, Ethan Erpelding, and Michael Erpelding, at the Erpelding Generations Waterfall Production Area marker. Submitted photo.

On Sunday, July 26, the Troop completed their 15-mile hike. While the boys were hiking down Co. Rd. 48, they were met by some cheerleaders, Emma, Ellie, -Elizabeth, Ryan, Timmy, and Adam Donnay, who brought refreshing cold water out to the boys. The boys had plenty of water packed, however, it took nearly 3½ hours to get to this point; and since a severe storm passed earlier, temps were quickly rising to the upper 90s, the water they did have was warm, so cold water was appreciated.

While traveling down 133rd Ave. on the west side of Island Lake, the Troop stopped at the Erpelding Generations Waterfowl Production Area which was land donated by Ron Erpelding, Assistant Scoutmaster Michael -Erpelding’s cousin. This 277 acres of land is conserved for wildlife habitat. Five generations of Erpelding families have lived on this farm and enjoyed its beauty for 115 years.

Next up for the Troop is the 20-mile hike set to take place
Saturday, Aug. 1.
